Textual Analysis

The film House Bunny is a comedy drama film, which is the genre that I am
studying and using for this course, which is represented through uses of cinematography, editing, sound and mis-enscene. The
institution for this film is produced by Columbia which is a popular make.

The opening for this film is a slideshow of pictures looking through a scrapbook of the main character-Shelly's childhood. Their are comical parts and sad parts which add to the drama genre and set the mood of what the film is going to be about.

Sound
There is uses of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, for example the film immediately starts with non-diegetic sounds including the slow music in the background, with the voice over of Shelly talking about her childhood. As her childhood is sad the music is slow and quiet. There are also uses of sound effects, when they show a picture of her when she was younger and she is ugly there is a sound effect used which makes is comical. The diegetic sounds are of the turning of the pages in the book. As soon as Shelly has finished talking about her past, the music changes to bubbly, exciting music to represent how she is happy with her present life.

Mis-en-scene
There is low key lighting at the beginning when she is talking about no one wanting her and how she was put in an orphanage, as the pictures are in black and white. This shows that she was unhappy at this stage, which compares to when she starts talking about her present life, and it instantly changes into high key lighting. They also use costume and propps to add to the comedy drama, for example there is a picture of her when she was an ugly teenager, and she is wearing not very fashionable clothes, and has glasses and braces.

Cinematography
There isnt alot of shot use in the opening of this film as it is just a display of pictures, but as the film starts there is a variety of shots, for example it starts off with an establishing long shot of the playboy mansion, and the camera then tilts towards the sky. The next shot is a panning action of a typical scene in the playboy mansion by the pool. There is also uses of shot reverse shot when shelly is talking to people, mid shots and match on action shots.

Editing
There is use of straight cut editing, when the clip cuts staright onto a new scene with no transactions, and there is generelly normal editing, sometimes it can be slower editing.
